It is our pleasure to invite you to the Silver Jubilee Symposium organised by the Speciality OCD Clinic at the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS) on OCD & related disorders at the Convention Centre, NIMHANS on 11-13th November, 2022. This years’ symposium commemorating the silver jubilee of the OCD Clinic (est. 1997), is an academic extravaganza with talks by leading experts on various aspects of obsessive compulsive and related disorders.

Pre-conference Workshops: Psychosocial Interventions for OCD
1. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in OCD: Practical Aspects – Dr Nitin Anand, Additional Professor (Clinical Psychology), NIMHANS

This workshop will focus on developing skills in carrying out a cognitive-behavioral assessment, formulating a model for obsessive-compulsive behaviors, application of exposure and response prevention, addressing irrational thoughts, and beliefs, relapse prevention strategies, and maintenance of therapeutic gains attained with CBT for obsessive-compulsive disorder.
2. Mindfulness- Based Intervention for OCD – Dr Ajay Kumar, Associate Professor (Clinical Psychology), NIMHANS

Mindfulness involves intentionally bringing one’s attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment, and is often taught through a variety of meditation exercises and behavioral skills. The aim of the workshop is to provide more of a practical understanding of mindfulness-based interventions and skills to therapists who would like to develop a clinical practice and apply mindfulness in the management of patients with obsessive compulsive disorder.
3. Family Intervention for OCD – Dr Anish Cherian, Associate Professor (PSW), NIMHANS

This workshop will focus on addressing the involvement of family in therapy, including psychoeducation, reducing accommodative behavior, expressed emotions and dealing with the burden of caring for a person with OCD.
(Pre-conference workshops are restricted to 40 participants/workshop. After completing registration, the delegates may opt for a single workshop. It is free for registered delegates/students, on first come first served basis)
Poster Presentations
The conference welcomes poster presentations related to original research on OCD and related disorders from registered delegates. We have now extended the deadline for abstract submission to 15th October 2022.
Instructions for Abstract Submission
The organizing committee of the OCD Symposium 2022 invites submissions for poster presentations.
General Instructions
- Only scientific studies, or case series related to OCD and related disorders will be considered.
- The presenter/primary author should be a registered delegate.
- Multiple submissions by the same author are permitted. However, at least one author must be available at the poster session to present the content and respond to questions.
- Please enter the name of the presenting author, designation and contact information. Names and Email addresses of all co-authors also to be given.
- Please ensure all e-mail addresses are correctly entered.
- All abstracts must be submitted in English.
- The abstract must include 3-5 keywords.
- All submissions shall be made online only, using the link provided on the poster submission section
Abstract text to be limited to 300 words, structured under the following headings:
- Background – Indicate the purpose of the study or hypothesis that was tested
- Materials and Methods – Include the setting, study design, the subjects and the type of statistical analysis
- Results – Present as clearly as possible the outcome of the study and statistical significance as appropriate. In this regard only scientific papers with valid results will be considered.
- Conclusion – Briefly discuss the data and emphasize the significance of the results
Timelines and processes
- Last Date for Submission of Abstract For Posters is now 15th October, 2022.
- All abstracts will be reviewed for consideration of inclusion by the scientific committee. The decision of the committee in this regard will be final and binding.
- Acceptance of your poster proposal and further details on the format for poster presentation will be informed by 25th October 2022.
Poster Awards
Following the poster sessions, a jury will evaluate the posters and select 3 posters for awards to be given away at the concluding event of the symposium. The best 3 posters will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000. Rs 15000 & Rs 10,000 respectively.
Expressions on OCD
Express your thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires on OCD through any medium – painting, poem, photography, short films (7 minutes), cartoon/comics. Best Entries will be a part of the exhibition on OCD in the Heritage Museum, NIMHANS in November 2022.

Post-Graduate Quiz on OCD & Related Disorders

The Organising Committee of the NIMHANS OCD Clinic Silver Jubilee Symposium is pleased to announce the “Silver Jubilee OCD Quiz” on 11th November 2022 for postgraduate trainees in psychiatry & other mental health specialties.
General Instructions

Quiz is open to PG Residents (MD/DNB/DPM) and Mental Health Trainees (MPhil in Psychology/ Psychiatric Social Work, MSc Psychiatric Nursing)

Most questions will be themed on OCD and related disorders – including theoretical aspects, history and culture, with the rest being on General Psychiatry

Exciting prizes!! 1st Prize: Rs 12,000; 2nd Prize: Rs 10,000; 3rd Prize: Rs 8000

Each team should have 2 participants from the same Institute. They should carry certificates from the Head of Department/Institute stating their bonafide student status, or valid ID cards.

Registration for the Symposium is mandatory for participation.

Walk-in Registrations for the Quiz teams will be on 11th Nov 2022 between 11:00-12:00 (noon) at the 4th Floor Conference Hall, MV Govindaswamy Building, NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

Preliminary round (written) will be between 12 – 1 PM.

Up to six teams will be shortlisted for the final.

Finals will be held from 5:00 PM on the same day.

Prizes will be awarded during the valedictory function.
