Dr.YC Janardhan Reddy
Professor of Psychiatry
Dr Reddy is a Professor of Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He completed his MBBS from the Government Medical College, Bellary in 1986 and obtained his MD degree in psychiatry from the NIMHANS in 1991. He is on the faculty of the department of Psychiatry at NIMHANS since 1995. The obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) clinic at the institute is headed by him. The OCD clinic is involved in clinical services, post-graduate training and research. His areas of specialization include obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, bipolar disorders and clinical psychopharmacology. Dr Reddy has special interest in studying the long-term course and outcome of OCD and bipolar disorders and in the management of treatment resistant OCD patients. Recently, the OCD Clinic has initiated neurosurgery program for treatment refractory OCD patients. Dr Reddy is involved in studies of phenomenology, comorbidty, family-genetics, treatment resistance, neuropsychology and neuroimaging in OCD. His current area of study involves studying neuropsychological and neuroimaging endophenotypes in OCD. He has published extensively in international and national peer reviewed journals on OCD and bipolar disorders. He is also the reviewer for many national and international journals in psychiatry. In view of his interest in clinical psychopharmacology, Dr Reddy has participated in international clinical drug trials of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and OCD. He mentors post-graduate and doctoral students in their research work and is a mentor of the Fogarty Indo-US Training Program. He was awarded the Visiting commonwealth research fellow at the Oxford University Department of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital, Oxford, UK in the years 1999 and 2000. He has also been awarded the prestigious Sir C.V. Raman State Award for the Young Scientists for the year 2011 by the Government of Karnataka. Dr. Reddy has funded projects on OCD from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) of the Government of India. He is a member of the WHO Working Group on Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders for revision of ICD-10.
Dr.Shyam Sundar A
Associate Professor in psychiatry
Dr. Shyam Sundar A is an Associate Professor in psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He completed his MBBS from Coimbatore Medical College, Tamil Nadu in 2002 and his postgraduate training in psychiatry at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 2006. He worked in AIIMS, New Delhi and Christian Medical College, Vellore before joining NIMHANS as a faculty in the department of psychiatry in 2011. He has been part of the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) clinic since then. His areas of interest include obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). He was involved in a research project on the use of rTMS for OCD. He has published in many national and international scientific journals and authored various book chapters on psychiatry. He recently completed a fellowship in bipolar disorders from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
Dr.T.S.Jaisoorya
Associate Professor of Psychiatry
Dr.Jaisoorya is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He completed his MD (Psychiatry) from the NIMHANS and MRCPsych (UK). He is on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at NIMHANS since 2013. His areas of specialization include Obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, epidemiology and Public health. He has received during his career as a clinician and academician: the Daniel Cappon Prize proxime accessit’ Awarded by Imperial College, London in 2005; Royal Society of Medicine, UK – Section of Psychiatry – Mental Health Foundation Essay Prize in 2006; and Kerala Catholic Bishop Council Award for Meritorious Deaddiction Service in 2014.
Dr.Janardhanan.C.Narayanaswamy

Dr Janardhanan C. Narayanaswamy is an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He completed his MBBS from the Government Medical College, Thrissur (Kerala) in 2005. He received his MD degree in psychiatry from the NIMHANS in 2009. He is on the faculty of the department of Psychiatry at NIMHANS since 2012. He is a consultant at the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) clinic at NIMHANS. Dr Janardhanan has a special interest in the examining the neurobiological underpinnings of psychiatric disorders. His work includes examining biomarkers predicting the medication response, neuroimaging and EEG research in OCD, and non-Invasive brain stimulation using Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). Apart from these, he is interested in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for OCD and related disorders. Dr. Janardhanan is a member of International College of Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorders (ICOCS). He has publications in national and international peer reviewed journals. Dr. Janardhanan has active research projects in OCD funded by the department of science and technology, department of biotechnology and well1come-trust DBT India Alliance. Dr. Janardhanan is actively involved in teaching post-graduate MD students and mental health trainees. At present, he works on projects aimed to examine the neurobiological predictors of SSRI response in OCD and in investigating the neuroplastic effect of transcranial direct current stimulation on the neural circuitry of OCD.
Dr.Paulomi.M.Sudhir
Professor at Department of Clinical Psychology
Dr. Paulomi M. Sudhir, MPhil, PhD, is currently a Professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS, Bangalore. She joined Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS, Bangalore as faculty in 2004 was previously working as Junior scientific officer and Clinical Psychologist at the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS.
She completed her MPhil and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS in the area of Behaviour therapy and chronic medical conditions. Dr. Paulomi Sudhir specializes in cognitive behavioural interventions for wide range of anxiety disorders such as social anxiety and generalized anxiety, OCD, depression, and other psychiatric, psychological and medical conditions.
She has been associated with the Behavioural Medicine Unit at the Department – which offers psychological interventions/therapy for persons with minor and major psychological problems. She is also a consultant at the Stress and Lifestyle Clinic at NIMHANS Center for well1-being, BTM layout, Bangalore.
As a faculty she trains and supervises post-graduates and other professionals in the area of CBT and conducts research in her areas of interest. She has conducted several workshops for training of mental professionals in cognitive behavioural interventions for social anxiety, OCD and in stress management. Dr. Paulomi Sudhir has mentored more than 11 M. Phil dissertations at the department and has been guide for 11 doctoral scholars in the areas of CBT and behavioural medicine. She has published in national and international journals in her areas of research specialization and has recently authored a chapter on stress and coping with reference to work stress and on CBT for adolescents.
Dr.M.Manjula
Additional Professor of Clinical Psychology
Dr.M.Manjula is an Additional Professor of Clinical Psychology at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India. She completed her Masters in Psychology from Bangalore University in 1994 and Obtained M.Phil and PhD in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS in 1999 and 2003 respectively. She is working as faculty at the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS from 2007. She has specialised in Cognitive Behaviour Therapies and currently works as consultant in Behavioural Medicine Unit of the department. Her areas of research include cognitive behavioural interventions and third wave therapies in anxiety, mood and personality disorders; preventive interventions in youth in the community set up and sexual dysfunctions. She supervises and provides interventions for all psychiatric conditions. She is been associated with OCD clinic by providing clinical services to patients with OCD and also supervising therapies in OCD. She has guided more than a dozen of M.Phil dissertations PhD theses in the above said areas. Dr. M. Manjula has funded projects from ICSSR, ICMR and Ministry of Youth and Sports. She regularly conducts workshops on cognitive beahviour therapies and has published her research in National and International Journals.
Dr.Nitin Anand
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology & Consultant
Dr. Nitin Anand is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology & Consultant, at the Specialty Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Clinic at NIMHANS. He attained his doctoral degree and clinical training from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. His doctoral research focused on providing cognitive behavioral therapies (a psychological treatment) for treatment-resistant patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. The results of this research are promising and indicate that structured CBT is effective and is of value, even in patients who have not responded to medications.
With over 10 years of experience in the field of clinical and counseling psychology, he has extensive clinical experience in conducting cognitive-behavioral assessments and cognitive behavior therapy for individuals with obsessive compulsive disorders and related co-morbid conditions. The commonly co-occurring conditions with OCD can be Depression, Social Phobia, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Personality disorders & interpersonal conflicts. He is also trained in assessing social-emotional functioning, personality, and interpersonal relations and in providing counseling and psychotherapy for adolescents. He has published research articles and literature in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Dr.Ajay Kumar
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology
Dr.Ajay Kumar is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He has completed his M Phil and PhD in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS in 2009 & 2012 respectively. He is the faculty of Clinical Psychology at this institute since November 2016. He is associated with the Behavioral Medicine Unit, adult psychiatry unit VI and The obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) clinic. Before joining NIMHANS, he has also worked at PGIMS, Rohtak and GMCH, Chandigarh from April 2013 to November 2016. His areas of specialization include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, third generation behaviour therapies specifically the application of mindfulness in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, Non-pharmacological treatment of anxiety disorders, and Obsessive-compulsive disorder. He has published six paper in peer reviewed and PubMed indexed journals and guided six M Phil dissertations.
Dr.R.Dhanasekara Pandian
Additional Professor of Psychiatric Social Work and Consultant
Dr.R.Dhanasekara Pandian is working as an Additional Professor of Psychiatric Social Work and Consultant at the Adult Psychiatric Unit VI and the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Special Clinic of NIMHANS. His areas of interest are family accommodation, family rituals and family related psychosocial interventions in the areas of OCD. He has guided many M. Phil and Ph.Ds in the area and strongly believes in networking with various professional social work and social service organisations working for the welfare of clients with mental disorders in general and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in particular. He has conducted many training programmes for professional and non-professionals in the area of mental health and published many research papers both in national and international professional journals.
Dr.Anish.V.Cherian
Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Social Work
Dr. Anish V. Cherian is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India. He completed his MSW from St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru in 2006. Subsequently, joined as Junior Research Fellow in the speciality Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) clinic at NIMHANS, where he was involved in a longitudinal follow-up study of OCD patients which had more than 90% of follow-up rate at the end of five years. He was awarded PhD for his work in the area of influence of family factors on the course of OCD in 2012. He was chosen for Fogarty Indo-US Training Program in Chronic Non-Communicable Disorders at the University of Florida during 2012 – 2013. Dr.Cherian was instrumental in initiating OCD clinic at K. S. Hegde Medical Academy, Mangaluru during his tenure as Assistant Professor in the institute between 2012 – 2016. He joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS in 2016 and is deputed as Psychiatric Social Work Consultant at OCD clinic. His areas of research interest includeOCD, public mental health, common mental disorders, stigma. He has funded project from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Council of Social Science Research and Fogarty International. Recently and received various awards and fellowships from both National and International organisations. He was chosen for ‘Public Health Research Initiative Fellowship’ by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in collaboration with Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB, A Statutory Body under Department of Science and Technology (DST)to carry-out public mental health research.
Dr.Venkatasubramanian
Professor of Psychiatry & Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr.Venkatasubramanian is a Professor of Psychiatry & Consultant Psychiatrist at Schizophrenia Clinic & The Metabolic Clinic in Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore. He has been closely associated with several neurobiological research studies in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder at NIMHANS. He coordinates the InSTAR Program for Schizophrenia (www.instar-program.org) as well1 as the WISER Neuromodulation Program (http://www.instar-program.org/wiser-program.html).
His areas of research interest include Clinical Neurobiology, Immunological & Metabolic Abnormalities in Schizophrenia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and other Weak Intensity Neuromodulation techniques in Psychiatry and Neuroimaging in Psychiatry. He has more than 200 publications in National & International Journals. He heads the Translational Psychiatry Laboratory at the Neurobiology Research Centre, NIMHANS (www.transpsychlab.org).
He has received several awards like DST SwarnaJayanti Fellowship 2016, Dr. Vidyasagar Award by the ICMR, Government of India in 2013, well1come Trust / DBT India Alliance Senior Fellowship in 2011, Young Psychiatrist Award by the Indian Psychiatric Society in 2009, Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award 2008 by the National Academy of Sciences, India in 2008 and many more.
